Caterpillar Machine Engine Speed Test using CAT ET 2024A

The CAT ET 2024A Engine Speed Test function allows for the adjustment of engine speed, excluding high and low idle settings. This function is particularly useful for measuring noise levels. Accessing the Engine Speed Test

To run the Engine Speed Test:

  1. Open CAT ET 2024A.
  2. Navigate to the Diagnostics menu.

  4. Choose Engine Speed Test from the submenu.

Screen Layout

The Engine Speed Test screen is divided into three main areas:

1. Status Line

  • Displays messages regarding the diagnostic test process.

2. Instruction Area

  • Provides step-by-step instructions for the diagnostic test.

3. Control Area

  • Allows for the adjustment of engine speed.
  • Horizontal Slide Bar: Displays the parameter range with the current engine speed value above it. Parameter reference numbers are on either side of the slide bar, and a vertical slider shows the current value.
  • Buttons for Speed Adjustment:
    • Decrease speed by one setting.
    • Decrease speed by 20 RPM.
    • Increase speed by 20 RPM.
    • Increase speed by one setting.

Buttons and Their Functions

  • Start: Begins the test, enabling manual manipulation of engine speed using the arrow buttons beneath the slider bars. This button is disabled once the test starts until it is stopped.
  • Begin Sweep: Automatically varies engine speed through the range. Sweeping continues until the End Sweep button is clicked.
  • End Sweep: Stops the automatic sweeping of engine speed.
  • Stop: Ends the test. This button is disabled until the test is started.
