This guide will walk you through the steps to use the Cat ET diagnostic software to perform an Injector and Suction Valve Control Solenoid Test on your Caterpillar machine. These tests help diagnose issues with the wiring or solenoids by allowing you to check the operation of the injector control solenoid valve and the intake valve control solenoid valve for one or all cylinders.
Performing the Injector Control Solenoid Test
- Accessing the Test:
- Open the Cat ET diagnostic software.
- Navigate to the Diagnostics menu.
- Select Diagnostic Tests and then choose Injector Solenoid Test from the submenu.
- Test Screen Layout:
- Tree Area: Displays the available ECMs and the selected diagnostic test. If multiple tests are available, the selected test will be highlighted. Note that the Tree Area is not available if the test is performed over an ATA Data Link.
- Display Area: Contains three columns:
- Cylinder/Description: Lists the available cylinder numbers.
- Mode: Indicates the current state of each cylinder, either “Powered” or “Off”.
- Test Result: Displays the outcome of the test for each cylinder as “Open,” “Short,” or “OK”.
- Buttons:
- Change: Allows you to change the state of a specific cylinder, enabling you to troubleshoot solenoids by turning individual cylinders “Off” and then re-energizing them.
- Power All: Resets all cylinders to their powered or active state.
- Turn All Off: Switches all cylinders to the “Off” state.
- Start: Initiates the test and disables the button until the test is stopped.
- Stop: Halts the test and disables the button until the test is resumed.
Performing the Suction Valve Control Solenoid Test
- Accessing the Test:
- Similar to the Injector Control Solenoid Test, go to the Diagnostics menu in the Cat ET software.
- Select Diagnostic Tests and then choose Suction Valve Control Solenoid Test from the submenu.
- Test Screen Layout:
- The layout and functionalities are identical to the Injector Solenoid Test screen, allowing you to perform and monitor the suction valve control solenoid test efficiently.
